My problem may be resolved, but yours (AVG's) remains.
Why would you have auto-connect as the default?
Shouldn't customers have the option to turn it on, rather than the necessity to turn it off?
Also, this happens repeatedly AFTER I turn VPN off.
But thanks for what I hope to be the solution.

We understand your concern. But, most of our users wish to keep AVG SecureVPN to auto-connect in order to secure their devices. That is the reason why it set to default. We are sorry if you feel this way. We understand that you only want to turn on AVG Secure VPN manually. Refer the below steps to disable auto-connect option in AVG Secure VPN :
- Open AVG Secure VPN and go to ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
- Select Network Security in the left panel.
- Untick the box next to Automatically when connected to the internet.
