Why update driver updater?

To resolve the issue with the AVG Driver Updater, our Senior Team needs to make some changes in the Registry and hence you need to Reboot in Safe Mode and connect back to us.

Let me inform you that Wireless Internet connections won't reconnect automatically in Safe Mode, so the remote session will get disconnected automatically. Once you restart the computer in Safe Mode, please click on the Wireless Internet System Icon at the bottom right corner of your screen and connect to the wireless network manually. Once you're connected to the Internet, please connect to our remote team by following the steps provided to your in the email sent on September 22, 2017 by our Support Team.

I have had AVG driver updater since it was released, it is not working and has not been working for quite some time, I contacted AVG support, who advised me to get a cable, plug it into the router, switch off the router, switch back on and start the computer in safe mode, or something like that. 
All my electric items, telephones, televisions, 4 computers, not all but one out of the 4 that get used constantly by the family, the heating system are all attached to this router. 
Is it worth me switching off this router and possibly manipulating all their settings to accommodate a cable to router, which I do not have as everything is wireless and I am only home once a month for a week? Surely there must be another method of repairing this program.
