Win 10 Blue Screen on Bootup after Installing AVG Ultimate

Hello Peter. Thank you for your patience and I apologize for the delayed response. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team.

I understand you are experiencing a blue screen error disruption upon having selected the incorrect boot bath when restarting your computer. Although you formerly used the AVG Clear uninstall utility, to remove former versions of AVG from your computer, the uninstall utility is not what caused this disruption.

I suspect the disruption you are experiencing is related to your Master Boot Record (MBR) needing to be repaired. A few troubleshoot options to consider are as follows:

Dear Avinsah,

It has now been 5 days since raising this problem and I cannot use my main PC or access my documents because of it and can no longer afford to keep waiting. Could you please advise ASAP as to what AVG plan to do about it and when?

Thank you,

Peter Greenacre

Hello Peter. Thanks for writing back.

I understand this is still an ongoing disruption, which is unfortunate and I apologize for the ongoing frustration this has caused you. I was hopeful that the Hirens BootCD would help address your likely MBR disruption.

Nonetheless, I will try to further help you. So that I may visually better understand your disruption and hang-ups, if you may please share some photos (i.e. taken with your mobile phone camera) of the actual display screen, and where you are stuck and not making progress.

I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Shawn

Hello Peter. Thank you for writing back and I apologize for the delayed response and your continued disruption experienced.

Your feedback of having called for support is valued and appreciated. I will ensure it does not fall on deaf ears, and forward to the appropriate team for future quality assurance.

Specific to the ongoing disruption, per my third referenced suggestion; have you tried using Hirens BootCD (https://is.gd/c6n2P9)? This utility will afford you tools and resource to help resolve the MBR disruption.

Good luck. Let me know how this works for you. Regards, Shawn

Hello Peter.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
We have escalated this issue to our senior technicians.
We will get back to you at the earliest possible. Appreciate your patience meanwhile.

Dear Shawn,

Thank you for the Hirens Boot program but it didn't resolve the issues I have with Windows 10. It's now over a month and I'm still struggling to get Win 10 back as it was to th point where I think I will have to reinstall Win 10 altogether and at the risk of loosing programs and documents.

I've tried everything out on a spare laptop I have and in doing this "rehearsal" I've lost my Win 10 Pro which has defaulted back to Home that the laptop was built with, there's loads of corrupted files which I have tried numerous fixes to repair starting with the sfc /scannow command in C:\windows\system32 and Powershell as well as other proposed fixes from Msoft but nothing's changed except now the Win 10 start menu doesn't work either and it says that the Recycle Bin is corrupt too, and I've implemented fixes for this too but nothing and none whatsoever work.

It looks as though certain system files have been corrupted so bad by whatever what was in AVG Clear that it has really messed up my newest laptop (the one I used most) entirely and AVG need to do something about it to compensate me for the amount of time lost, inconvenience and now what looks look my data and documents what has happened.

Besides the time and effort lost in constantly trying to repair what the AVG Clear obviously did to primary system boot files I have even lost access to my external hard drive backup documents because it says I do not have the "permissions" and yet I have tried numerous fixes for this too replicating the exact same names, administrator details and accounts as before. So now it's looks like a reformat of C and a complete new install of Win 10.

Please advise what you/AVG propose to do about it?

Regards,
Peter Greenacre

I submitted the following error to the official AVG Home Support site which gave a ticket number 2878535 and asked me to call them but there was no number given so I guess this was because all are working from. The problem is as follows…
I used AVG Clear to uninstall existing licensed IS & TuneUp and upgraded to Ultimate on 10 devices on a 2 year license. Had to use AVG clear to ensure complete clean install.

After install and reboot got blue screen flash up with 3 options asking to select which OS to boot from; Win 10, AVG Antivirus Uninstall on Vol 4 and a 3rd saying same. After 15 seconds it would boot into Win 10 so thought no more of it.
One day in a hurry I accidentally clicked the 2nd which was the AVG on Vol 4 as described above then on boot up it got locked into Automatic then Diagnostic Repair loop and that's where it remains.
After days doing research and trying different recommended solutions nothing worked.
Win 10 is trying to boot from Vol 4 and not a valid Win 10 boot file. I've tried to correct this but no luck. Cannot boot into Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking for this reason but can get to C Prompt.
Can anyone provide a solution fix please?
Thanks

Hi Saun,

Thanks for your response but overall it was too little too late. I contacted support twice about this the first time being 05 October and I've been waiting for a response eversince. On one occasion I managed to get throught to support I got to speak to this guy who for the want of better words was useless and kept repeating everything I said and then he'd ask me to keep repeating the same back to him and when I said it was his headphones that was the problem he couldn't even figure out how to increase the volume on his headset or switch to his phone or whatever device he was using.

Cynical, yes very much so with good cause. I exhausted every avenue to find a means and a way of finding a solution and getting into Win 10 but there was absolutely none. Going into Recovery and Advanced Troubleshooting only culminated going back into Automatic and Diagnostic Repair. I inspected the BIOS boot options and tried booting from the Win 10 DVD in D: and at first I thought I'd found a way when it asked if I wanted to format c: and use the prime partition to install windows but it did not go any further and went back to Automatic and Diagnostic Repair.

In summary; no your solution doesn't work because I cannot get get into safe mode with or without networking but I can get into x: and c: prompt. I cannot get into anything else so lets be clear and I've tried just about everything. Yes the MBR was obviously corrupted by the AVG Antivirus Uninstall "Clear" on Volume 4 which for some reason it was seen as a boot partition.

I could not get any further than that, I could not install, inspect, check anything except x: and c: and knowing about DOS I tried some commands to try and delete or move the corrupted files but despite doing this it still didn't work and at that point I assumed it was finding a MBR or BCE.

I've been searching and trying different suggestions for the last 3 weeks until I decided enogh was enouh and downloaded the Win 10 boot media on USB which again I thought it worked at first I could retain my files but it wouldn't go forward with the option of saving my documents so tried it again and it would only work if I selected to remove everything. At this point I was dumbfounded but thought I could use the back copies I made to an external HD.

The trouble is now I cannot access to any of my documents saved on the external HD because of permissions etc. It appears that the PC name and username accounts has been changed due to the new windows 10 install. I've tried changing them to them back to the original and again I tried all sorts of remedies but I still cannot get access to certain files because of password protection and permissions.

I'm still trying out different ways and means but AVG/Avast need to replicate this problem and fix it because it's just about ruined me and my work even to the point where I might have to buy a new laptop and the spec I have doesn't come cheep. I'm also looking for some software that might provide a solution.

Peter G
Apologies for the typos but the old laptop I'm having to use can't keep up with my typing which causes errors
1. Access BIOS on your Windows PC, to try and select correct boot option. You must press your BIOS key set by your PC manufacturer which could be F10, F2, F12, F1, or DEL.
2. You may try to perform a recovery of your Windows operating system, per the following Microsoft self help: https://is.gd/4keEDf
3. Depending upon your IT skillset, you can use Hirens BootCD, https://is.gd/c6n2P9, to resolve this disruption. However this is a fairly advanced toolset.

Good luck. Let me know how this works for you. Regards, Shawn
Sorry 5th November not October
Thank you for the detailed explanation, Peter.

Hi Avinash,

Is there any further update on the response yet please?

Thanks,

Hi Avinash,

Thanks for your response, I look forward to receiving the recommended solution.

Thanks,

Pete

I have just spoke to "Sarge or Serge" in home support. First he was using a headset that he couldn't hear me one, second he kept asking the same questions and third he couldn't find or read either of the two tickets I have raised and having explained to him what the problem was all he kept referring to was was a license problem I had with TuneUp a year ago.

What the heck is going on?
