Hello Peter,
I regret for the inconvenience caused. Please follow the below steps to completely uninstall AVG from your computer:
Download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.
Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compability)
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"
(1/2)
I was able to finally use clear and remove, but it was with quite a bit of effort. I re-installed AVG, which also seemed a bit problematic. Now that it is installed, when you run AVG scan, it does nothing. The disk usage doesn't go up to indicate that it is doing anything.
Hi Everyone, I have a Win10 machine that had AVG installed and was working fine. I noticed that the machine was running 100% proc all the time, even idle, and AVG was the culprit. I couldn't uninstall, or stop AVG processes. After Malware Bytes install and identification of various exploits found in /user/appdata, the proc usage dropped immediately to 10% at idle. But I still cannot uninstall AVG. AVG is a paid version and worked well until it was hijacked. I considered creating a new admin account and trying to delete from there, but I can't even delete folders that are AVG related. Do I really have to comb through the registry to get this done? Any advice on next steps to get this cleaned up further from what Malware Bytes cannot find? AVG needs to build a "no matter what" uninstaller, a sort of nuke button for AVG because it can get hijacked.
Peter,
Do you mean the scan does not progress from 0%? Are you starting the scan by clicking on "Scan computer" button on main interface or any other kind of scan?
Thank you for providing more information.
In this case, I request you to repair AVG Internet Security (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG), update (open AVG Internet Security > menu > settings > update) it one more time and reboot your computer once. After reboot, please run the AVG scan again and check if it's working fine. If the issue still persist, please share a screenshot of your AVG user interface to assist you further. You can check the following link to see the instructions about taking the screenshot (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot).
Best regards,
Alok.
