Thank you for understanding in advance!
Hello,
After the recent update to v21.6, both my Windows 10 machines (HP Z4 G4 8 core Xeon and HP Zbook 15 G6 8 core Xeon) have had several BSOD crashes on boot. The crash is "system thread exception not handled" in "fvevol.sys".
The crash is intermittent on the Zbook and persistent on the Z4. Both machines boot from internal NVMe M.2 SSDs.
The persistent crash on the Z4 occurs whenever the internal SATA SSDs are connected. All UEFI hardware diagnostics pass. It does not crash on boot when the internal SATA SSDs are disconnected.
Since completely removing AVG (uninstall followed by using the AVG clear tool), neither machine has crashed on boot.
It looks to me as if there is some kind of race condition or synchronisation issue in the AVG low-level code that is loaded early in the boot sequence. These are reasonably fast machines and are entirely SSD based, so it may well be a latent issue in the code that has been exposed by running on a fast machine with a low-latency disc subsystem.
At the moment, my "fix" is to use an alternative anti-virus product as I cannot afford the risk of further disruption.
Colin.
