As this issue has arisen - the complexity of the various problems that can prevent a Win 10 PC from sleeping reliably - (Google that if you doubt me) - has it ever been proposed - or is it even possible - that AVG Tune Up - could scan for sleep issues (e.g. the wake timers - including Ethernet 'wake' settings) that can wake a computer from sleep almost immediately, in opposition to the user's needs?
It can take ages to track down everything that can be waking a PC - even a knock on the desk that could move a mouse unwittingly. Updates to Win 10 - all the handholding tweaks - can make this a constantly recurring and annoying problem.
Hi Sean,
I'm sorry, the concern you are reporting is not completely understandable. Are you looking for a new feature that would allow to scan the computer when it is in sleep mode? Please help us understand your request better. Thank you.
No. As I wrote, Windows 10's handholding makes it difficult in some configurations to prevent the PC from WAKING from sleep - in opposition to one's intention that it should STAY SLEEPING until woken by, e.g. a touch on the keyboard.
In other words, opting for SLEEP at the power button is often entirely ineffective, as the PC will wake automatically without user input unless all wake settings (e.g. for the Ethernet) are deliberately made ineffectual beforehand. Google: "Windows 10 won't stay sleeping", to find, e.g.:
Redirecting
Obviously there should be an option to make Sleep mean SLEEP, whatever. There isn't at present.
Yes - I have done that. That took me only to the option of resetting the PC - demanding a reinstallation of the Win 10 OS and the wiping and reinstallation of all other apps - days of work!
Absurd! My PC's insomnia is a far lesser problem. I simply need to reconcile myself to powering the system off when I am not here!

Sean, check whether your AVG Tune Up is in flight mode. If it is in flight mode please change it to general mode.
Then check for the issue again.
Let us know, if the issue persists.
I'll try the solution I see here:
Redirecting
'Restore plan defaults'
If that don't work, I'll get back!
Thanks!
In reply to Santhosh
The flight mode button in my AVG Tune Up display – bottom left – the rightmost button in an array of four – appears to be inoperative. The plane icon appears grey in comparison to the designs on the other three buttons. It does not change colour or show any other reaction when clicked on. I cannot find any other reference to ‘flight mode’ in ‘Settings’.
Meanwhile the no-sleep disability of my Win 10 PC continues.
Sean,
The issue can be fixed by the Microsoft Developers only, I'm sure they are working on this issue. We request you to contact Microsoft directly (through chat/phone) to know more about this resolution.
Hello Sean,
Thank you for letting us know.
Did you get in touch with Microsoft support?
Yes - I have done that. That took me only to the option of resetting the PC - demanding a reinstallation of the Win 10 OS and the wiping and reinstallation of all other apps - days of work!

Thank you for your understanding, Sean.
I'm afraid to inform you that AVG features couldn't override the computer's configuration and functionality which is directly controlled by Microsoft.
Nope - that 'Restore (power) plan defaults' advice is ignored by my PC as a cure for Win 10 insomnia.
I have posted this on that MS support page:
'Restore (Power) Plan Defaults' does not work for me.
It is absurd that 'Sleep' does not mean 'SLEEP in spite of all wake timers, drivers, device settings etc'.
There needs to be a SLEEP WHATEVER option. I am suggesting this to AVG Tune Up, but why is something so obvious not already available in the OS?
Is Microsoft just as non-compliant with climate change advice as the world's most eminent … sceptic?

Thank you for explaining Sean.
This looks more related to Microsoft's feature. I could see, there is already a discussion open in Microsoft forum for this. I would request you to contact Microsoft and they should be able to help us further.
Will do, Priyanga. I suppose I was hoping that AVG could come up with whatever 'pill' is needed to get my PC to sleep as soundly as Sleeping Beauty - needing solely my own touch to wake!
OK, Priyanga - no sweat! Given the inevitable updating that occurs with Win 10, who knows what lies ahead in terms of glitches and fixes!
