Hello again
It seems I have not explained things very well. You say to switch on Defender - I cannot do this unless AVG is uninstalled. Temporarily disabling AVG does not allow me to switch on Defender and until I do the updates will not install. I have uninstalled AVG, switched on & updated defender, installed the updates fine, reinstalled AVG and all is OK. I am wanting to know if there is any way to install the updates without uninstalling AVG. I want to update Office as well so not prpared to omit updates for other microsoft products

Hello Richard,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. To fix the issue, we suggest you to turn on windows defender, update it from the 'User Interface' and then check for the updates. If the updates are still not installed, please disable updates for other Microsoft applications, restart the computer and run the updates once again. Once the updates are installed successfully, please revert all the changes you have made and future updates will be installed without any issues. Thank you.
I have problems installing updates in windows 10 for both windows itself and other Microsoft products. I receive the error code 0x800705b4 which I understand relates to windows defender. AVG switches off defender but the updates won't install because defender is switched off. I have tried temporarily disabling AVG but no joy because defender does not come back on so the only way round it so far has been - uninstall AVG (defender comes on), install updates, reinstall AVG. Is there any other way to get updates to work without this uninstall/reinstall business? I am wondering why this happens as it seems fairly recent but it looks like if you aren't using defender then you are being penalised !!!
Hello Richard,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. As we suggested by earlier we would request you to confirm whether you have installed the Windows defender Updates from "user Interface'. Thank you.
Richard, Just for your info with Win 8 onwards [obviously inc Win 10] Windows Defender was re-classified to an AntiVirus prog which can conflict with AVG so consequently it's disabled when AVG is installed.

Hello all
Yes I have installed the windows defender updates. I could only do this once I had uninstalled AVG however as until then you cannot access defender which brings me back to my original question which is - is there any way to install these updates without completely uninstalling AVG first?
