Windows 10 wont update

In my program files folder there is not a fold labeled (x86) or anything close.

I had the same problem. Turned out that it was caused by files of AVG Secure Browser and registry. This is how I succeeded to solve it: Delete all files that you can from AVG Secure Browser file from program files (x86). Two files for AVG Secure Browser  Crach handling will still be there, computer refused here to erase them because they were currently running.
After deleting all expet the two that refjused to be deleted clean upp the registry with CCleaner (free to download) or other tool that cleans ther registry. Say yes when it asked if it is ok to delete the key.
After cleaning up the registry go back to program files (x86) and delete those two AVG Secure Browser files, now they can be removed.
Then uppdate Windows 10, now it worked!
If you download AVG again be sure to take off the checks for AVG Secure Browser so that you don't accidentaly download it again and get this same problem in the future.

Branden, did you solve the problem?
I've been trying for weeks to update W10, as current version won't be supported for much longer.
I didn't have AVG installed.  However, I deleted all other AV and installed latest AVG, then tried to update - no success!
I've 'cleaned' the computer several times, including uninstalling AVG, so now only using Windows Defender.
Still no success in W10 update, same message re AVG - but it isn't installed!!
Has anyone any ideas?

Branden,

We request you to use AVG Clear tool to remove AVG Antivirus, remover tool will remove traces of old versions. Refer this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product  to download and run AVG Clear tool.

Should I look in another folder?

Yes, Branden.

Please delete all the files and folder named with AVG. If the issue persists, reboot your device in safe mode http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-reboot-your-computer-into-Safe-Mode and then delete it.

Windows has been trying to update and it keeps telling me AVG anti spam is the problem, I have removed AVG and even used the AVG removal tool and this continues to prevent the update from going through. PLEASE HELP

Thank you for providing the screenshot.

This product is not associated with AVG. This seems to be a third party software in the name of AVG.

Please open "Programs and Features" from control panel, search for this program and uninstall the same from your computer.

This should fix the issue.

I don't know how to do the screen shot can you help me with that?

Hello Branden,
Please open C drive > look for program files (x86) folder and open it > if there is any AVG folders, please delete them. Reboot your computer once and check with the status.
However, may I know what happens when you click "uninstall and continue" (as in the screenshot of Windows setup window)?
Best regards,
Alok.
