Hello Mel,
I understand the inconvenience. Please disable each component in AVG Program (AVG> Menu > Settings > Components) and check which one is blocking the BAT file.
This problem has returned. AVG does not allow existing BAT-files to run correctly. I do not know why I was able to see a successful test yesterday. (but now… I am uncertain if I should continue this thread or open a new one ???)
I have written a special test-case to more easily demonstrate the problem for myself. I have a short BAT-file which loops while attampting to move files from the current directory to its parent directory. It uses the DOS command ---- move {filename} … ---- and YES, there are two periods in that command. That "move" command can not be accepted by AVG. (and of course the BAT-file is known as "CMD.EXE" while it is running)
I continue to receive realtime warnings from AVG, I then click ALLOW APP and receive a GOT IT confirmation. And as before AVG's RANSOMWARE segment lists no blocked apps — while also listiing CMD.EXE as allowed. What can I do I resolve this situation?
My WIndows XP systems uses a nightly scheduled task in my Windows XP system to encode video-files on my HDD. This task (which triggers a BAT-file) has been running successfully each night for almost a year. After installation of AVG Internet Security the BAT-file does not run properly. Specifically, the following commands are executed by the BAT-file. rename "%%f" *.DONE {and} move "%%f.mp4" ..
The SECOND command fails to work. It causes a AVG warning "WE'VE JUST PROTECTED YOUR FILE!" (but that is the file that I intended to move to a higher-level directory)
After the warning, AVG then offers to "ALLOW APP". When that is selected AVG states that CMD.EXE is allowed --- and "WE'LL ALWAYS ALLOW THIS APP FROM NOW ON. That is reasonable and makes good sense but the next invocation of the same BAT file produces the same warning. It appears that AVG software cannot remember that CMD.EXE should always be allowed. How can I address this problm?
I am currently looking at the RANSOMWARE PROTECTION window — and examining the Blocked/Allowed Apps. There are NO listings in the BLOCKED category. The ALLOWED category has a single listing ---- "C:\WINDOWS \system32\cmd.exe" . That item was likely inserted due to my prior activities… when I selected "ALLOW APP". During this examination, the RANSOMWARE remained in an OFF status.
I then returned RANSOMWARE to the ON status and ran some tests. It appears that my original problem has been resolved. That is puzzling because I did not change anything. The AVG already had an appropriate listing in the ALLOW APP but seemed to ignore it until after I did this examination. Well ??? - I will consider this problem resolved — but may re-visit this topic if this situation repeats itself.
Thanks for your help. You have quickly responded — with precise instructions.
Thank you for confirming the same. Please open AVG Internet Security installed on your computer and click on "Hacker Attacks" tile. You can see "open" next to "Ransomware Protection", click on the same and select "Allow/Blocked" list. In the blocked list, you can see this program listed, please remove the same from the blocked list and check if that fixes the issue.
