Windows crashed after installing AVG Internet Security

Hello Dinesh,

I have installed Windows on my laptop, as this was the only option left, along with applications, including AVG apps, so now my laptop is working well again…

When (re)starting my laptop I can logon to Windows. However I can't use Windows in a normal way. A location is missing (can't share which one) as my screen is black with a minimal taskbar on the bottom accompanied by an hourglass indicating that some action is performed, but if a system profile can't be located as it seems then there is a serious issue (when trying some repair actions by my dell laptop message appeared that there is PTE misuse, so when installing AVG something critical might be overwritten).

Hello Dinesh,

When I start my laptop it tries to start Windows (I tried to use various boot options on my Dell laptop, even the ones trying to repair issues). I can enter my username, but after that the screen turns black and a message briefly appears that location is missing. I can't start Windows in safe mode as the laptop/Windows doesn't responds to mouse clicks, commands etc… This must be due to incomplete startup of Windows.

Repairing I tried via the boot options of my Dell laptop. I'm now going to create a Windows 10 usb in order to start the laptop via the usb and then use the repair options available in Windows 10 (I tried creating such a usb but had an issue with the usb when using my business laptop in order to create it). I will get there but it will take some time ( I will buy an additional usb for future and save for future use in case of further calamities with my laptop).

Dear All,

Today I have renewed my subscription. Based on the email I downloaded the tool and installed it. Take took already considerable time. However now it seems that Windows is encountering serious issues when trying to restart my laptop. Any suggestions how to fix this, without having to reinstall my laptop.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Rudi,

We realize the situation. Please don't worry. We will put our best efforts to serve you at any cost.

You can use USB recovery drive to repair your Windows. However, we can also try the below steps to check if you are able to get into repair option:

1) Please press and hold power button for 10-15 seconds and do a system restart. Check if windows loads properly on your computer.

If the issue persists, follow the steps in the following link (Restarting in SafeMode (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Restart-Windows-Safe-Mode)) to restart your PC in safe mode and keep us updated on the progress.

Hi Rudi,

This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program & this isn't the experience we want you to have.
Please let us know what happens exactly while restarting your laptop. Do you receive any message from Windows?
If so, share us the snapshot of that screen (if possible) via your mobile/camera.

Dear Avinash,

There are no other antivirus programs installed. As I'm not able to start Windows properly (not normal nor in safe mode) there is no way I can install or uninstall any program. I'm trying to repair Windows or restore my laptop to a date that it worked fine, but that is unsuccesful until now.

We agree that, Rudi. Please try the USB recovery & let us know the outcome. We'll attempt to help you fix the issue post fixing this issue.

Appreciate the details, Rudi.
If you have any other antivirus program installed, please uninstall it because using more than one antivirus program simultaneously may cause this kind of issues. If it is only AVG that is installed, uninstall AVG and reinstall to verify the issue.

Hello Priyanga,

What you suggest I have already tried without result. So the USB recovery is the best option at the moment.

Thank you for explaining, Rudi. As we're uncertain about the hourglas icon in your taskbar, would you be so kind to share us the screenshot of your desktop screen (if possible) for better clarity?
