Windows Defender Security Centre tells me that AVG antivirus is off and your device may be unprotected ? AVG Internet Security indicates my PC is fully protected.

Andries, Which version of Windows are you actually using?. Windows Defender is an anti-malware component of Microsoft Windows. It was first released as a downloadable free antispyware program for Windows XP, and was later shipped with Windows Vista and Windows 7. It has evolved into a full antivirus program, replacing Microsoft Security Essentials as part of Windows 8 and later versions. Obviously in this case there can be a conflict with AVG AntiVirus. To the best of my knowledge with Win 8 & later it's auto disabled when the AVG installation process is started.
