I'm trying to eliminate the infamous "windows process manager" virus on Windows 8.1.
Using AVG rescue, I created a bootable flash drive and updated the database. I first did a Quickscan and found nothing. I went to the next level and to select volumes or directories. I chose the Windows8 volume. Then comes a Scan options panel (archives, heuristics, suspicious applications, paranoid mode, etc.). I can only chose one such option at a time and the scan starts. It's fast, and finds nothing. I try other options, other volumes, but not all (8 volumes, about 12 options…).
Isn't there a way to perform a full, comprehensive AVG scan of the machine?
Has AVG been able to remove this recent virus that spawns spurious windows process manager tasks that exhaust the computer resource?
According to the task manager, those spurious processes run from the user AppData\Local\tinpkwb directory, which I can see but not access nor delete. I did scan the Users directory with AVG rescue, but nothing came out. I'm not even sure it went into AppData\Local.
Thanks

Hello Jean,
My apologies for delay in handling your case. Please be informed that AVG scans AppData.
May I know if you can reboot your Windows computer in Normal Mode, if you have installed any AVG program (AVG Antivirus free/AVG Internet Security) on your computer?
If yes, we request you to run a Deep Scan (AVG -> gear icon right from Scan computer -> Deep scan) using AVG Protection.
Regards,
Alok.

I haven't heard a word from AVG.
Jean,
I'm glad to hear that you have fixed the issues.
Actually, the AVG rescue CD is not being developed nor maintained (no virus definition updates) so we do not recommend the users for it.
However, you can install AVG Antivirus Free on your computer now and your computer will be protected from all types of malware.
Feel free to contact us again if you need any further assistance.
Cheers,
Alok.

Thanks for following up. The first thing I did, 2 weeks ago, was download AVG antivirus but this particular virus prevents installing it. That's when I tried AVG rescue and sent the message above.
Two days ago I was finally able to eliminate the virus using Eset bootable rescue.
