Hi Norman,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Forum. I see you are facing issues with updating your windows without removing AVG. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please share us the screenshot of the page (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Create-screenshot) which shows the error message?
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on Answer & then click on the Image [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. Thanks in advance.
My year old Dell laptop running Windows 11 Pro is having problems loading the Windows KB5028245 update which came out a week ago. It won't load from the normal Windows Update panel in Settings nor from the Microsoft Update Catalog download. It churns away but eventually reports it as failed.
Normally if this happens you would stop the Windows Update service, the BITS service and the Cryptographic service then install the update and then restart the services. But AVG is hooked to the Cryptographic service and you cannot stop it. Stopping AVG manually has no effect.
I have run sfc /scannow and DISM but it hasn't done anything. All my other software and drivers are fully up to date. I have even tried Fortect to try to resolve it. It looks like a conflict of security rights somewhere.
The update contains a resolution to an issue that affects VPNs and fixes quite a few other issues. I don't really want to remove AVG in order to complete the update.
Has anyone else got this issue?

I tried days of trying to install this update and it became obvious that it wasn't going to work. If anyone else gets this or a similar problem then the answer is to download the Microsoft Windows 11 Installation Assistant and effectively update the whole operating system to the latest version. It contains the update already and avoids any security issues. You do not lose any existing programs but it is a rather extreme and lengthy solution.
