Hello Kathy,

We are sorry to know that the windows update services doesn't work on your PC.
If you suspect that AVG Protection program might cause the issue then you can disable it temporarily as mentioned in this article: http://avgread.me/1GnMD3N .
If the issue persists even after disabling AVG Protection then the issue is with the windows update service.

I have windows 8.1 on all-in-one computer.  It hasn't been updated in about 2 years.  Says the last update was 4/15.  Windows updater will search but never stops searching and never finds anything.  I have also gotten an error code saying, "update can't check for updates over 30 days".  I have AVG internet security.  Could AVG be affecting the windows update?
