AVG VPN is using an EXTREMELY excessive amount of internet bandwidth after I renewed my subscription.
The typical daily internet usage for my whole family averages about 20GB per day. However, starting Dec 1st until December 5th, “openvpn.exe” used over 1074GB!!! This data was even being used while my computer was in sleep mode!! It completely burned up my household data limit for the whole month, and I still have 14 days until the new data month begins!! I have to now spend more money out of pocket to my cable company to buy more data.
After fighting the online menus that kept resetting to the beginning, instead of opening a Chat window or giving me the Support phone number for 20 minutes, I found a phone number through Google. The Technical person I explained my problem to told me to take the VPN off of “Automatic” and select “Wireguard”.
23 hours after I started using Wireguard, I received ANOTHER alert from my cable company about unusually heavy internet usage. I pulled up my computer’s data usage, and “wireguardtun.exe” had already used over 42GB in ONE DAY. That means ONE PROGRAM used more bandwidth in 23 hours than my entire family uses in two days.
I have used AVG for years with ZERO issues. However, this year I received dozens of pop-ups asking for renewal, encountered many problems with my renewal, which took days to complete with Cust Support help, and now the VPN program has used my entire month’s data allowance in 4 days. I don’t know what changes AVG made, but this excessive data usage has to be stopped NOW.
If AVG cannot get this under control NOW, I want a full refund!! I already had to pay more money to my cable company for the most expensive “unlimited” tier to keep our household working until the new data month starts because of AVG.
I would appreciate help from anyone.
