This isn't the expected behavior. Let us work together and fix this.
Provide the screenshot of AVG window where it shows "you are not protected" to assist further.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Eventually found time to do all the above. The software doesn't automtically update itself then!
My version of AVG permanently shows the error - !You are not fully protected!'and an Update is Required. No matter how many times I update or click on the fix button the situations is not resolved.
Automatic update is set, manual update does not clear it either. Any ideas?

It should get updated automatically but the update files may get corrupted at that time. That's why we recommend you to reinstall your product manually to have latest version.
