"You are not protected" message

Have used AVG free for over a year with no problems. Yesterday the message appears.  Have tried previous advice of updating, changing, uninstalling and reinstalling.  After spending several hours, I ready to give up and use something else.  Any solutions?

This issue should get resolved when you perform a re-installation.
To be sure, do you have other third party antivirus program installed on your PC?
