You are unprotected message but most things appear to work

Hi,

Thank you for your reply and advice.

Will I have to uninstall AVG free first or can i try just to reinstall which would over-write the current version of AVG on my laptop?

thanks
Margaret

Hi Midhun,

I have done all the windows updates and completed the instructions detailed in here | AVG used when windows not recognisng AVG is installed.  Everything is still the same.  Windows still using Windows Defender Antivirus not AVG. When i click manage providers in the Security centre, still not showing AVG.I then tried uninstalling AVG again using AVG clear and re-installed AVG.  Getting the same result.  Windows Defender Antiviurs still on, no listing of AVG in the Windows Security Centre.
I also wondered, am i supposed to log into AVG? Even for the free subscription? I dont remember doing that before.  i have a screen shot here of the My Subsctiptions part.

Anway, can you please advise now, I dont know what else to try.

thanks
Margaret

Hi much in

thanks for your reply. The malwarebytes program is the free on demand scan program. it's not running virus protection. I use this to do on demand check every now and again for malware, as an extra to AVG. I have had it on my computer for over three years, never interfered as I said it's just an on demand free scan program for malware.

The AVG problem started after I done the big Windows 10 2004  update about a month ago which led me to uninstalling AVG and re-installing, which i done today. Now Windows doesn't recognise it's there. Please can you re-read my previous message regarding checking registry. I will of course also check tomorrow to see if there are any Windows updates needing done

thanks
margaret

Hi,

i havent got round to do the uninstall and reinstall yet, i get a bit nervous doing that sort of thing.  But i thought i would send a screen shot of the red 'You are unprotected message' in the tool bar, but when i open AVG interface, everything is protected.  I will try the removal and re install.  The other thing is i am doing uptdates of AVG etc. as well.
Thanks
Margaret
AVG un protected message in toolbar

Hi everyone.

I updated my pc with the Windows 10 2004 update.  After the updated my AVG free appears to have changed and i dont think working properly allthough certain things look ok?  When i hover the mouse over the icon in the tool bar at the bottom i get the message ! You are unprotected, but when I open AVG it has the exclamation mark with You have basic protection.  WHen i open windows Security i have green ticks at all thesel componets - Virus & Threat Protection / Account Protection / Firewall & Network Protection / App & Browser Control / Device Security.  When i click Virus & Threat Protection, has AVG switched on with green ticks at Current Threats, Protection Settings and Protection Updates.  I also have a feeling AVG is not scanning incoming and outgoing emails in my gmail account as i can no longer see the AVG signature. I was also able to do the virus definitaions updates and application update successfully, and I did a full virus scan, and appeared to work ok, Can you advise.  Aslo quite annoying that i cant upload screen shots to this page,

thanks
Margaret

We understand your concern, Margaret.

The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Repository is the database that stores meta-information and definitions for WMI classes; in some cases the repository also stores static class data as well.

Also, kindly check if there are any windows updates available for your computer. If yes, update your windows & let us know the status of the issue.

We're sorry to hear that the issue still persists, Margaret.

To further investigate this issue, we require the AVG diagnostic logs from your computer.
We've sent you an email with further assistance. Please check your inbox/spam folders for the email and use it to revert to us.

To fix this issue, please refer to the article provided in the previous post & remove all traces of AVG from your computer.
Then, kindly reinstall your AVG Antivirus Free and check if the issue still persists.

Margaret, it is recommended to remove existing AVG and then proceed with the installation.
Please run AVG clear tool as mentioned in this article in order to remove AVG Antivirus free.
You can then reinstall AVG Antivirus free as mentioned in this article.
Keep us apprised about the status.
