Fortunately I have an external hard drive and save regularly so I'm able to delete any computer infestations and start again. So when I was attacked by a Ransomeware file encryption I was able to play arround with this problem. It seems that 'Antivirus protectuion' does not mean 'Antimalware protection'. My Avast antivirus product did not prevent a 'Ransomeware attack'. After the attack it still could not find the ransomeware infestation of Documents which were encripted. I found a free 'Ransomeware Rescue Product' that would restore individual word documents via 'Open Office Writer'. I restored about a dozen of my most precious Document files. Then out of curiosty I reserched for 'Anti Malware Products' capable of stopoping 'Ransomeware attacks' and found 'HitMan Pro' on free trial which soon found two ransomeware attacks of aparently severe nature. They wanted more than I was prepared to pay so out of curiosity I removed it without paying to remove the Ransomeware encryption and ran the free AVG antivirus which also could not find anything wrong at all. Then I also tried the free trial Norton Antivirus which also could not find anything wrong. I deleted the Avast product and the Norton. The 'AVG Antivirus prog' would not delete no
matter what I did. I returned to try the AntiMalware HitManPro which found the same two 'Ransomeware virus as before. The strange thing was that the Ransomeware names did not corespond to the encrypted RansomeWare names attached to my Docs. Having found a discounted version of HitManPro I deleted the 'ransomeware' virus only to discover it had seen my 'Ransomeware Restore Program' as an attack and deleted it in error!! Seems to me all these so called protections are just a rip off. I now rely on Zonealarm Firewall to stop these attacks from ever entering my M/C.
Hi Vineet,
Unfortunately no security solution can provide 100% protection.
Did you tried display hidden files? It is recommended backup important data to different location ecpacialy in organisation.
Thanks
Vineet, Are you an AVG 'Business products' customer?.

No Alan.
We have purchased multiple copies of 3 user internet security and using those in the systems of our organisation.
Would be greatful if you help. As the time line to resolve will be expire on monday, after that no one can unlock the files as mentioned on warning message.
Thanks.
I want to inform you that we are a regular user of your product i.e. AVG Internet Security with MS Windows 7 for a long time and was quite satisfied with it. We cannot take any risk regarding the virus attack and had trust in AVG so we purchased your product and used in many systems in which we do not want any glitches regarding system and data security.
But with reluctance I am informing you that on February 05, 2015 we faced a problem in one of our system at organization regarding malicious activity (CTB Ransomeware) into that particular system. A pop up message was shown on the screen with the warning message “Your personal files are encrypted by CTB-Locker” (I am attaching screen shot of that particular message with this mail). All the files are encrypted suddenly and the extension of all the files was changed. We are not able to access them. We tried to open the files but those could not opened. Now it was mentioned into that popup message that we have only 5 days (one day has been passed by trying to resolve the issue at our level) and we need to payapprox. $300 to them so that we can get the unique key by using that we can decrypt that data.
Very important data into that system is there and if we lost that data we have to face so much of troubles in future as most important and required information was saved with regular communication (emails) for a long time with in the system which will be required in future also. We are not able to understand that how is it happened when we are using updated version of your above mentioned product with Firewall of your product. Here I update their AVG Internet Security on regular basis and scan the external memory devices before using after connecting to system. Each every steps we follow to protect our system as recommended by you on your but after that if this type of incidents can happen then now we have lost the faith from your product because it shows that your product is not capable to protect the system from external attack by viruses, malware or spyware etc.
Now I request you to provide the solution of restoring the data, removing this malware from the system and repair the infected files at the earliest as we have only four more days to do the same. We searched so much information on internet and found that if these files will not be recovered in given time duration then no algorithm is available to recover after the given period to pay them. We hope you will take it seriously and will provide a best solution with high priority.
Thanks.
With Regards
Vineet
