avg won't let me run my camera's photo import utility. canon EOS utility 2. it says "EOS Utility 2 is already running." the solution is to click the AVG icon in the system tray, and disable avg protection. 

this morning, i didn't have an AVG icon in the sytem tray. so i opened AVG from my start menu. 

AVG Zen says "internet security: not protected"
internet security says "computer, private data, payements protected (web&email and hacker attacks, install now)"

internet security says "avg is out of date" and has a big red "update now" button.
clicking the update now button says "Program: already up to date (Current Version 17.5.3022)

i rebooted. i still didn't have an avg icon in the system tray.

now i get a notification: "your virus definitions are out of date" with a clickable "update" link. 
clicking the update link --of course-- says "Engine and definitions: already up to date (current version 170912-12)

at least i can still go into internet security/menu/components and disable resident shield and software analyzer any time i want to import pictures. because that's super convenient.
