If you are using latest 2017 version then the removal to be used is "AVG Clear" and not the AVG removal which is to be used for older version.
I request you to provide the screenshot of AVG Internet Security dashboard to assist further.

Your job is to respond to MS windows updates, right? After MS did another major updates, which forces users to use Windows defender, AVG went bananas. but WD says AVG is set as default, so its real-time protection is not turned on. But, when I open AVG, it does not work either. So, I patiently tried to uninstall AVG by using the AVG remover tool but it says it cannot find an AVG on my desktop. I just uninstalled AVG under the control panel and reinstalled it. But the same situation. I will not renew AVG again. Even though I have more than 1-yr left for my subscription, I will not use it.
