Hello Darin,
We apologize for the delay in responding to you. Thank you for your patience.
Please be informed that before upgrading to Zen it will notify you about the change. We recommend you to install the latest version of AVG 2016 version in your pc to be away from virus. There are numerous number of malware programs emerging day by day and we are working 24/7 to add all those definitions to our database.
Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance. Thank you.
Aravind,
Thank you for your reply, but you are mistaken.
Zen has installed itself on two of my systems without providing notification.
The first time this happened to me, I watched a definisions update complete. I started a scan and left the room. When I came back, Zen had installed itself and my AVG free 2014 was updated to AVG 2016.
On the second system, the same thing happened except that I was watching the system after a definition update…. And saw Zen install itself. NO notification NO prompt NO request for permission. An update file had loaded itself into my temp directory and the changes were taking place without permission, notification, or warning.
Thankfully, I removed the internet connection and shut the system down before anything else happened. It was possible to remove Zen and keep AVG 2013 free. The update file was deleted from the Temp directory…. This is the behavior of a Trojan down-loader.
If AVG intends for there to be a notification, it’s not working. (win7 64bit, & winXP 32bit systems). I’m positive about this because I sat and watched it happen… and on two systems… this isn’t an accident… this is back door marketing.
Each year, your software becomes more bloated with features I don't want and becomes more intrusuve. I would be running AVG 2013 on all my systems if possible. I can not, will not put 2016 on my systems. Thank you for the offer, but no thank you.
Good Luck and Best Wishes
It is AVG Free 2013.
The system is a 64bit win7
The last time it happened, it was to an installation of AVG Free 2014 running on 32bit WinXP.
I understand that at some point the older Free installations will stop updating, and I'll have a choice to make… but both times these unwanted installations took place, there was no notice…
While I appreciate that you offer us a free version of your virus protection… It's starting to act like a trojen downloader.
Thank you for your assistance
Why does Zen download with a definitions update? I did not choose a wrong file because we are talking about a routine definition update on an existing installation. This happened on another machine, and is not a good thing.
Because I had a bad experience before, I know the definition update can't be trusted, I watch the computer as it updates the definitions and I watch it a while longer to make sure nothing else is happening. Once again, Zen appears… except this time, I unplugged the internet and cut the power to the PC. Thankfully, my existing installation of avg 2013 had not been compromized.
Why is this happening?
Such Trojan like behavior is a betrayal of our trust. AVG is on our systems to prevent such actions.
I want my money back! (just kidding)
Sadly, upgrading to AVG 2016 is not an option. The software has become bloated with unwanted features and is far to intrusive.
Good luck with this back door marketing scheme.
