I had the same rpobelm. I followed the suggestions as well but the remover tool crashed too. I installed cccleaner and it found and removed lost parts of AVG, but it was still present in places, so I edited the Registry, many, many lines of AVG to delete, but was finally able to convince AVG that it wasn't there and was, after reboot, able to install Ultimmate.  That was last July. After the August Ultimate downgrade, which showred up on my system in late September, I went through 5 days andf 4 techs until one finally pointed out the downgrade. She explained that AVG made improvemnets to how it works, by removuing some services, removing icons, and moving remaining services deeper in to the sub-strata menus where people shouldn't be using things like 'Temporarily Disable AVG". This is an improvemnt - OK!
