First noticed this a year ago and a tech support disabled Windows Search (local services). Recently I was working with no internet connection and noticed 100% disk usage with serious performance degradation. Temporarily solved the problem by disabling BITS local service.
Problem resumed a few days later - cannot tie to an update or download event. Have tried all the suggestions in microsoft forums except removing 3rd-party anti-virus (AVG).
Any suggestions appreciated. It sounds as if this is a real issue for many PC users with no obvious solution.
