Usually, the renewal would be applied automatically to the program on your computer. Sometimes, due to few synchronization issues, we may need to activate it mnaually.

In December 2020 I paid £30 for the renewal of my antivirus licence but, following many years of successful annual renewal, cannot locate a dialogue that allows me to reactivate it. All I have received by email acknowledging my payment is the activation code but not a new licence number. The number displayed in the first line of the dialogue appears to be the old licence number. The dialogue doesn't provide a location for the activation code and I have not been given a new licence number. I have not encountered this problem in previous renewals.
