Adding an exception does nothing, AVG still blocking an app

Im trying to run a program and it just, closes. I have tested by putting AVG into "passive mode" and, It works. Adding an "exception" does nothing. When contacting support on their forums, they said this:

"It still "runs" (does work) in the background after you disable it. You could contact AVG support and ask them how to completely disable it." I still want to use AVG's active protection, but also want to use this app. Is that even possible?

PS, It IS modifying other programs, but that's its job, im hoping that info helped you come to a conclusion.
