Adware virus, I have a virus called desktop monitor that makes ads jump into anything I am doing

ths desktop monitor makes ads jump in and it is almost impossible to do any searches and they are hard to get rid of, I have tried to uninstall the desktop monitor but the system says I have to turn off all my protections, how can I get rid of this adware?

Pat, For removal info have you 'googled' remove desktop monitor virus?.. 
No AV product is capable of providing you with 100% protection although AVG are always working 24/7.

AVG would recommend to start with uninstalling all unknown/unused programs and browser addons.
