After AVG Browser security update, no longer opens

I got a msg from AVG they wanted to update my AVG Secure Browser. When I next powered up my PC the AVG icon was still in the Taskbar a bottom of screen, but when I clicked it, nothing happened other than a 1 sec appearance of a ‘busy’ hourglass icon. Powered down & up a few times but same result. Used only the AVG Sec Browser since my Minisforum miniPC bought 2 years ago, so very annoying to have to start afresh with basic Chrome Browser. I had a lot of open tabs from work in progress. Are they lost ?

Did this security update 2 days ago affect others ?
Is there a simple solution ?
Do I need to install AVG afresh ? If so, should I uninstall prev, or can new install use my existing settings and Addons ?
I use Windows11 Pro 64

I had a similar experience today. A message appeared, “AVG Secure Browser is out of date” in the taskbar and is still appearing as I type this. I downloaded the update, extracted, ran it, it reached about 80% and stalled. Repeated quite a few times with same results. Got through AVG Helpline and was informed, emphatically, that I do not have AVG Secure Browser. I am sitting looking at the icon, on my desktop, right now; it is the correct icon, labelled AVG Secure Browser and is fully functional. I intend to cancel my subscription, after being a user/then subscriber since it was Free AVG, more years ago than I can recall. If they do not know what is going on in their own company then they have lost my trust in the their products.

When the issue occurred on 19 Feb, I used the Chrome Browser to find AVG help but found no Helpline. From your post it doesnt help. I had expected AVG’s Community Post to be monitored by AVG staff and replied to, as other, arguably less important PC software that has both free and paid versions, is promptly replied to by the ‘Devs’.
As no response from AVG to my enquiry after 10 days, or to my re-post in their ‘PC’ channel after 7 days, I took the plunge and used Windows to Uninstall
When doing that, I saw an unexpected option to ‘Repair’, which I took. It did repair, so AVG now works, but it did NOT preserve my Tabs, Addons, or worse, my many. Bookmarks carefully built up over the 2 years life of my latest miniPC. So got my answer the hardway.
It was only after this, I searched my C: drive to see if any saved ‘bookmark’ file. I found a small Bookmark.BAK but it belonged to Chrome Browser, not the AVG “Secure” !!! browser. - what a missnomer !
When I get spare time, I will search reviews for an alternative free browser where the review covers support and the features I seek. I recall installing AVG antivirus many years ago on a different PC after it came top in reviews and thinking it behaved very well. However, the last 2 years, it gives a lot of ‘Warnings’ but when I clk on its suggested cure, every time it asks for a creditcard. I don’t recall that on the previous PC.

Well, after yesterday’s frustration of being given the “run-around” by the AVG call centre I decided that the best course of action was to simply delete AVG Secure Browser, which have. I have gone back to Firefox that I used to use. I shall be cancelling my subs to my 6 other AVG Apps and requesting a refund. I imagine this will be another battle as I believe their UK telephone number isn’t working at the moment!
