Android vulnerability

I recently found out about a vulnerability on older versions of Android called SOP bypass. I am included among those likely affected, as my Android version is 4.2.2. I use a non-Google tablet, so no auto update. My tablet has no option for cellular data; I get my internet via WiFi connection to my hotspot, further putting me at risk. I read that even if I use a safe browser, apps that use Webview to render internet data still put me at risk. Google has said it's up to the device manufacturers to supply patches, and near as I can tell, mine doesn't have one. I searched avg to see if their products, which I have, protect against this problem. I can't even find mention of the problem, which surprises me given the very real risk it poses. If avg products don't protect me, I either must accept said risk, root my tablet so I can manually update my Android version - very risky, or buy a new tablet that comes with a more recent Android version. I don't have money to upgrade my tablet and I actually like it, so that leaves me only 2 bad options. Please either alay my concerns, or offer a solution I haven't considered, or at least make this issue known. I've had my tablet almost 2 years, and I found out about this purely by chance. I might never have been informed.
