Thank you for your assistance.  I ran the repair option as advised however this does not seem to have resolved the problem.  The Anti-Rootkit Shield will still not turn on.  Any other suggestions?

AVG Internet Security shows a message that the Anti-Rootkit Shield is turned off. When I click the Turn On button, nothing happens and the message stays the same.

How can it be turned back on?

Raymond, could you share the screenshot of AVG window where it says as Anti-rootkit shield is turned off?
We could not find AVG Internet Security subscription on the account that you have provided for AVG community.
