"Antivirus Service Not Responding" (still running Win XP SP3 with AVG Free) and when AVG is off I can't access the internet (Firefox). AVG tray icon randomly gets a warning "!" over it at which point right-clicking shows AVG is "off until PC is restarted". After restart it's on again, until it goes off again. When it's off the Services panel shows AVG Antivirus service is stopped. Restarting if from there sometimes works, but AVG will always stop again on its own. This all seems to have started since the most recent program update.
I did Repair AVG per your suggestion but this didn't help - the problem persists. What do you suggest?

We're really sorry to hear that the issue persists. We request you to use our removal tools AVG Clear and AVG Remover:
1. Download and run the AVG Clear tool : https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool helps remove AVG 2017 and its residual files.
2. Open the AVG Clear tool.
3. Click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
4. Click No in the Windows safe mode dialog.
5. Select the installed version of AVG.
6. Click Uninstall, then click Restart computer.
7. After restart, download and run AVG Remover http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to remove all AVG products.
8. Open AVG_Remover.exe.
9. Click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
