After the latest AVG update, applied in the last couple of days (26.5.10994a (build 26.5.10994.984)) my internet connectivity is apallingly slow, causing frequent hangs in common apps such as GMAIL and Facebook. Streaming video is near impossible, downloading equally so. I don’t use the VPN because I’m on my own network (only use it when outside of the home) but things seem to be better with VPN active than not. If I disable AVG protection completely, everything runs perfectly.
I have similar problems, Youtube ether loads with a blank page most of the time, if it does manage to load, video quality very low, i.e. 144p so suspect Youtube Algo dowgrades video quality cause AVG is messing things up…..
I also made a post on this couple of days ago, but no responses from AVG, being a “paid” customer, I am not sure if they (AVG) are telling me to F*^&% off….
It is so bad on my computer I have had to turn off AVG protection and rely on Windows Defender.
Glad to hear however that it isn’t just my computer.
I contacted one website I’ve used daily for years saying they had a problem where it wasn’t working, but it turned out to be AVG! Their site works fine once AVG is disabled.
If you look in the ‘settings’ there are a lot of ways to change how scanning/protection work, even if we knew which option to turn off to fix this new problem where it seems to block or greatly slow some websites, that would help until they post a new update to fix this problem.
I have issue - has anyone figured out how to fix it yet? I tried the online chat…. After 20 minutes it wanted to connect me to a human, but said it would be a $5.00 charge! WTF?
After additional research I found this using Google’s AI search:
Users running AVG Internet Security version 26.5.10994a most commonly report issues with web browsing speeds, video playback stuttering, and application crashes.Common issues and quick, actionable steps to resolve them include:
YouTube and Video Stuttering: AVG’s HTTPS Scanning and Web Shield often disrupt video streaming platforms.
Fix: Open AVG, go to Settings > Basic Protection > Web Shield, and uncheck Enable HTTPS Scanning.
UI Failure to Load: The main antivirus window may fail to open or display “Sorry, something went wrong”.
Fix: Right-click the Windows Start icon, select Installed apps or Apps and Features, click the three dots/options next to AVG, and select Modify/Repair.
Browser and Network Issues: Overly aggressive firewalls can drop internet connections or flag safe sites as false positives.
Fix: Try temporarily pausing the Firewall or disabling the Web Shield to see if network connectivity immediately improves.
With respect, none of the above are solutions to the problem. I don’t want to turn off features and I certainly don’t want to run my IT stuff with no firewall or webshield. Yes, everything runs nicely when I do, but it’s no the solution. This needs AVG to investigate, and correct something fundamental they have introduced with IS 26.5.10994a.
We are having terrible access issues since the Latest release May 27, 2026 (build 26.5.10994.984). We had to turn off AVG just to access G-Drives and company resources. The we found that IF you add an exception for each site you are visiting, you can gain access. Additionally when accessing sites/drive, if the Chrome gets hung up that if you refresh the screen, you can gain access. I hope AVG does SOMETHING very soon to fix these issues.
I’m with you on this - we should not have to put a bandaid on our security for a work around to a problem created by an update. The only options I had was either the work around or stop using the internet. Refreshing sites didn’t work for me and adding sites as exceptions is a work around plus a hassle and waste of time for me.
Logs collected and uploaded with Enable HTTPS Scanning turned on. As soon as I turned it off problem accessing website was resolved, so this is definitely the issue.
