Hello Colette,
We'd like to inform you that Avast’s core mission is to keep people around the world safe and secure, and we realize the news about Jumpshot raised a number of questions.
As protecting people is Avast’s top priority and must be embedded in everything we do, in our business and in our products, we have terminated the Jumpshot data collection and wound down Jumpshot’s operations.
The data feed is controlled from our environment and has been turned off. There is no action you need to take with your product. Data sent to Jumpshot has been deleted as the wind-down process and corresponding legal obligations are already completed.
I'm new to AVG and have just installed AVG Ultimate.
However, it has just been brought to my attention that AVG's parent company, Avast was part of a big scandal last year in which is was found to be data - a practice which went on for 7 years.
The website 'safetydetective' this year removed AVG from it's recommended suppliers. It had been highly recommended by them, but following the scandal and many requests from is customer base, felt it unethical to keep it on its recommendation list.
My understanding is that the issues were primarily with its AVG free package, not that it excuses it for his past behaviour.
My initial contact with AVG has been very good and I've found it very helpful and proactive with all my requests using its live chat. I'm reluctant to return the product and ask for money back, but essentially, I would like assurance at this stage that its AVG Ultimate is safe and secure. I will review the question of ethics again when licence due for renewal.
I presume this had been discussed in the forum?
