AVG android app

Yes, thank you Willy Cave!   I really appreciate your time to post these very easy, clear instructions. My issue has been with AVG blowing me off WIFI because it "thinks" it's an unsafe connection.  I kept trying to find a setting in the AVG app to turn off or maybe to tell it to "ignore" certain WIFI connections and not send me the "warning" on these connections and not to just blow me off the conncection.  I followed your instructions above, and now I'll have to wait and see if the fix worked or not. lol  But thank you for showing me a lot more than I knew about it.

Thank you for this, your instructions were clear and easy to follow. The constant checking of my phone by AVG was draining the battery as well as annoying me.

Hello Phil,
I understand the inconvenience caused. In this case, I request you to contact our Mobile support team. They will help you with the AVG Antivirus user settings.
Best regards,
Alok.

I have been an avg customer for many  years but I am now considering other options. I can't find a way on my android phone to turn off all the extraneous crap avg believes they have a right to annoy me wit. Crap such as "boost phone," "turn off apps I have running," " charging screen," block unwanted calls," to name  a few. What exactly does an Antivirus app think it can select the programs I want running or the phone calls I want to receive? I hate to go somewhere else but these frequent pop-ups are getting old. Any way to shut this garbage off?

Hello Phil. I am not an AVG Personnel, but I think I can help you with your problem:
1. Open AVG Antivirus Android App.
2. Open AVG's Menu. You can do this by touching the three short horizonal lines on the upper left corner .
3. The menu should slide up from the left portion of your screen. Scroll down, and choose the option "Settings". It has a gear icon right beside it.
4. In settings, choose "Notification & Alerts".
5. Choose "Realtime protection". Please read the instructions well: First, in "Permanent Notification", I suggest you set it to "Standard Design". It might be a bit annoying, but it's to make sure that AVG always runs in the background. Once you're done, press the arrow button on the upper left to exit. Choose "Realtime protection" again. Before you begin toggling off and on the notifications, here are a few things to consider:
>Clipboard Cleaner Notification - This notification prompts you if there's content on your clipboard. In case you don't know, the clipboard is where the phone "remembers" the text that you copied/cut to make it available for "Paste" commands later. However, this can pose a security risk if the content you copied contains sensitive information like numbers or names. If you don't want sensitive information staying in your clipboard, keep this Notification ON so that AVG warns you if there's content on your clipboard.
>Sensitive App Notifcation -  This notification helps by warning you of apps that contain private and sensitive information (like Gmail, Messanger, etc.), and suggests that you lock them to keep them safe. This feature however is only available in the paid version, so if you're using the free version, you're better off turning this notification OFF.
>App Install Shield Notifcation - I recommend that you set this to ON. This warns you if an app is safe every time it is either installed or updated.
>Alert me about SPAM calls - I recommend that you set this to OFF. That is, if you're not prone to receiving spam calls (i.e. spam calls are calls in which the caller calls you several times in a relatively short period).
>Scan Complete Popups - AVG's scans are quick, so if you can wait for a few minutes to get results, then set this notification to OFF.
>Browser History Cleaner - If you don't want AVG reminding you to clear your browsing history, set this to OFF.
>Low Battery Ping - Unless you're using the Paid version, set this to OFF. This feature works well with the "Last Known Location" feature of AVG AntiTheft, which is a paid feature.
>Sensitive Content Detected - I suggest that you set this to ON. That way, AVG will warn you if you try to enter sensitive sites (e.g. banking sites) without proper encryption. It might seem bothersome, but if you want to lessen the chances of a hacker snooping on your WiFi and stealing your bank credentials, you're better off encrypting your WiFi connection using  a VPN connection.

If you're done, exit by pressing the arrow button on the upper left corner.

6. Next, choose "Performance".
>Charging Screen - If you don't want AVG offering you to use its Charging Screen whenever you charge your device, toggle this to OFF.
>Task Killing Notification - Set this Notifcation to OFF. No offense to AVG, but Memory boosters are not really useful.
>Lower Battery Warning - I think Android already warns you of low battery. Set this notication to OFF.
>Safe Clean - If you already have another cleaner app installed, or you'd prefer to clean your phone without being reminded every now and then, set this notication to OFF.

Once you're done, press the back arrow on the upper left corner of the screen.

7. Next, choose "WiFi Networking".
>Unknown Netwok Dialog - This notication prompts you whenever you a connect to a new WiFi Connection. It offers to scan the WiFi Connection's security and speed. For your best interest,  I suggest you leave this ON. If AVG does notify you of a new WiFi Connection, please set aside time to scan it for security flaws and network speed. That way, you have a pretty good idea of what's the status of the WiFi Connection you're connecting with.
>Security Scan - This notification occasionally reminds you to a re-scan a network that AVG has scanned before. It's up to you if you want to leave this ON or OFF.
>Speed Test - Occasionally reminds you to test a network connection speed that AVG has scanned before. Again, it's up to you whether you leave ths on or not.

Once you're done, press the back arrow on the upper left portion of the screen.

7. Unless you're using AVG's Data Usage Feature, don't bother with "Data Usage Alerts".
8. Press the back button on the upper left corner of the screen twice to return to the main screen.
9. Exit. And there you go! AVG Protection on your phone with less intrusive notifications. (Even if you turned off all Notification options, you'll still get occasional notifcations about offers to AVG's paid features. For me, that's okay. These notifcations should rarely bother you. )

I hope these instructions help you with your problem. Have a good day!
