I have two external drives on my windows computer, one drive scans fast and is great the other (same size drive) has been scanning for 5 days and only at 62%. Why does this take so long?
It sounds like your second external drive might be facing a few possible issues. Even if both drives are the same size, scan speeds can vary due to:
- Drive Health – The slower drive could have bad sectors or be nearing failure. Tools like CrystalDiskInfo can help check its health status.
- File System Errors – If the file structure is damaged or corrupted, it can drastically slow down scans.
- Amount & Type of Data – If it has lots of small files or fragmented data, that can slow things down.
- Connection Type – Double-check if both are using the same USB port standard (e.g., USB 3.0 vs. 2.0).
- Background Processes – Antivirus scans or disk indexing running in the background can also affect performance.
It might be a good idea to back up important data from that drive just in case.
Also, speaking of storage and media, if you’re into sports, you might want to try Sportzfy. It’s a free Android app that streams live sports, including football, cricket, and more. Perfect if you want to catch a match while waiting on long scans
