AVG Antivirus causes my Disk usage to spike to 100%

I am having the problem again after I tried to play Garry's Mod.

However, when I try to post the pictures like instructed, I click on the mountin symbol, and when the popup appears my display gets a bit dull in color and freezes. I can get out of this by refreshing the page, but it clears what I typed up and send me back to the beginning.

So instead of trying to upload it onto the website as an attachment, I made my own website that contains the images of the disk usage and my interface.

Simply click the link and it'll take you to the webpage containing the information you need:

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hello,
I am using the free version of the AVG Antivirus program. I am running a Windows 10 operating system.
My version of AVG sometimes spikes the Disk usage to unholy amounts when I try to do certain tasks. I tried to play a game on Steam today and for some reason things were going agonizingly slow, leading to the game crashing.

When I checked Task Manager, it said that AVG Antivirus was using the most Disk data with a whopping 20 MB/s.

I searched previous people who asked this question and the answers they got varied. One said to repair AVG, another said to completely wipe AVG from the computer and then re-install it, another one said to check and see if there are any other security programs that may be also enabled, and other settings. The only other anti-virus software on my computer is the Windows Firewall that comes with the machine. Everything is turned off except for the firewall, as I have no idea if the free version of AVG comes with its own firewall.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You are welcome Michael. If the issue happens again, please get back to us.

Michael, thank you for sharing an URL containing the screenshot.
From your issue description, it looks like this behavior is observed when you play a game.
Please check if there is enough free space on your hard disk. Uninstall unwanted apps and restart your PC to free up more space.

I would also request you to check for latest program updates in AVG and install them. Open AVG, click Menu -> Settings -> General -> Update.

I still have 400+GB of data free on my device.

I have updated AVG to the most recent version.

This problem has now extended beyond just playing games, as it has happened again randomly just today while browsing the desktop and trying to open windows on my device.
