Hello Kenneth,
Firstly, we regret to inform you that AVG programs are no longer compatible with Windows XP operating system.
Secondly, we like to assure you that AVG Antivirus Free program will not expire. However, it has to be reactivated on a yearly basis.
Thirdly, could you specify the program version of the AVG Antivirus Free installed in your Windows XP device?
Awaiting your response.
Hello,
I've been using AVG AntiVirus Free on Windows XP SP3 for some time (can't upgrade due to legacy software compatibility). Today I noticed the system tray icon has an X over the AVG icon. I found a screen that says it expired two days ago. Is this correct? I don't recall any mention of the free version ever expiring.
Thank you
Thank you for providing us the info, Kenneth.
You may need to reinstall AVG Free Antivirus once to reactivate it.
The program is designed in such a way, to keep track of the time, an user uses the free version.
Thank you Midhun. Version 18.8.3071 (build 18.8.4084.409) is installed in my PC.
How do I reactivate it?
Thank you for the response and link. I followed the steps to the Upgrade screen but don’t see the “Continue with Free” button.
NOTE:If the Continue with free (or Select) button is missing, AVG AntiVirus FREE is already activated on your Windows PC
The My Subscription screen says Expired and the system tray icon still has an X over it.
What’s going on?
Thank you

I am using Windows XP sp3. I can't upgrade due to software legacy issues. I have AVG AntiVirus Free, software version 18.8.3071 (build 18.8.4084.409).
I've been using AVG AntiVirus Free for four years without it expiring or my having to reactivate it. Two days ago I noticed the icon in the system tray had an X over it. The main screen says I have basic protection and clicking Scan Computer works. The virus definitions seem to be updating. The My Subscription screen says Expired. Clicking Upgrade brings up the upgrade screen but there's no button to continue using the free version.
Windows Security Center says virus protection is on and up to date. It appears your antivirus software is active and working. Why does it say Expired and why is there an X over the system tray icon?
Can I ignore it or do I need to do something?
Thank you
