Hello Steve,

I understand the inconvenience.
For this issue, we have to perform re-installation of AVG Antivirus program.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Run AVG clear tool as mentioned (here) to remove the traces of AVG program.
Proceed to install AVG Antivirus free, as mentioned (here).
Keep us informed about the status.

My AVG Free  identifies it is OUT OF DATE yet daily updates virus definitions, runs daily scans and is the latest release I believe?? Is the OUT OF DATE notification just a blip.
Have done screenshots and saved as files but cannot add them?

Thank you for providing the screenshot. 

I see that 17.9 version is installed and the current version is 18.1. It could be possible that the latest updated have failed to install completely or the connection with update server was interrupted. I would suggest you uninstall  (Run AVG Clear alone) the current version and reinstall AVG to resolve the issue.

Hi 
We tried the uninstall, and avg.clear.exe and reinstalling the new version (you sent me the link) and it failed to install. This was escalated and your technical department sent me instructions to change the DNS address settings - I KEEP asking this same question…
I want to know whether changing the DNS address will affect any of the other workings on my system? ie my SkyGo, Bankings and all other internet activity - I file online with HMRC and cannot risk these no longer working?
Please advise if changing these DNS addresses will NOT EFFECT anything else.
