AVG blocking my update for Adobe Flash Player

So this is kind of hard to explain. I've been using the free basic version of AVG with no problem for a little over a year. Yesterday I get on and it won't let me open AVG or even mess with the settings. It says that my trial has expired and sends me to a page to buy the packages. However, I can't afford to do that currently. My tool bar shows that AVG is still operating and protecting my laptop but like I said, I can't access any of it. In addition, it also prevents me from updating my Adobe Flash Player. I looked up how to fix it online and when I temporarily disabled AVG for the update, my computer freaked out and said that it had a virus now and needed to be scanned. Am I just suppose to ignore that warning?  How do I fix all of this. Please help.
