Thanks for trying the repair option. To assist further, I would suggest you to disable " Firewall "component first (AVG ▸ Menu ▸ Settings ▸ Components ▸ Firewall) and check if you are able to Send/receive emails. Also, please disable "Online shield" as well as "Email protection" component.
Let me know which component is blocking Thunderbird to receive/send emails.
