Thank you for the prompt response. No, there was no error message, just wouldn't open. Not being able to open AVG also means I can't update it through the website. And no, I didn't want to un-install it so I didn't take the chance of losing my bookmarks. The version of AVG brower I'm running is 88.1.8016.152
Looking at the heading on your response here…you have "AVAST" in the subject line. Not real familiar w/ it, but I know that Avast helps run different apps & platforms. I THINK that it had been installed on my laptop, but as I was just in my Control Panel / Programs, I didn't see it there. Do I need this? Could this possibly be the issue? The logo is very similar to yours
Do I download AVG browser again through Chrome and reinstall again? How would it update my current program? And what happens to my bookmarks? Will the new download install "Avast" as well ? Do I download "Avast" on its own? Or do I just download & install Avast on its own withought re-installing AVG browser?? !! Wheeew !! This is getting above my pay grade.
Regarding the link that kept on closing the AVG browser down, I don't know what it was…it wasn't on a secure website, just a link to a financial article / news letter etc
I would really prefer to use AVG browser if I can. Please advise.
Thank you - mr immrbd
AVG secure browser shut down when i clicked on a link on a financial information webpage. After re-opening AVG browser, I had the program re-open my closed pages, clicked on the same link that caused the original problem, & it shut down again … tried again & again, & it just kept shutting down. I then did a system restore to 5 days prior. Now the AVG browser won't open at all. I have a lot of recent bookmarks that I unfortunately haven't backed up. Could really use some helpful advice. This is on a HP laptop w/ Windows 7 Home Premium. Thank you - Immrrbd

GOOD MORNING -
Thank you again for the response. As I was starting to type this, I kept referring back to my programs, files etc, thinking what else I could do. I was looking at anything that said AVG, & came across "AVG Rescue Center" under the "AVG PC TUNE-UP"… figured I'd give it a try. Clicking on that opened up my AVG Browser to a "Bankrate.com" website. Yes, I have been on Bankrate in the past, so that wan't the surprise. The surprise was that it opened up the AVG Browser. At that point I promptly exported my bookmarks, before anything else happened. After opening up a new tab, I went to "Settings" to see the version of AVG browser that was running, compared it to the Control Panel / Programs version, & to the version that I referred to in the first email I sent to you. It was obviously updated during shutdown, reboot. But, I had also shut down, & rebooted before to no avail. That's when I decided to set a restore point. Was it coincidental that it just updated itself at a very opportune time, or did your software elves help me out? Well, it's working fine, so why don't I just shut up & accept it.
I kept my fingers crossed when shutting down the browser, but it re-opened just fine, again, & again.
Thank you again for your help
