Hi - I was prompted to update my AVG software about a week ago.  I think it was to install Zen.  When I was in process of doing that, I got the blue screen as my system crashed.  I'm running windows vista on an HP Pavilion laptop - about 7 years old.  But since then, it keeps crashing.  I tried to uninstall AVG through the windows uninstall program.  It did uninstall one of the AVG parts, but it crashes when I try to uninstall AVG Protection.  Same thing when I downloaded and ran the AVG Uninstaller, which identified that I have AVG Protection, so I checked it off, clicked on the uninstall button and the laptop promptly crashed.
I can start my laptop in safe mode, although it seems to hang for a little while it's loading windows/system32/DRIVERS/avgidshx.sys    If I try to boot up normally, I'm able to choose which user I want, and then it crashes while still booting up.
How do I remove AVG entirely?  Can I go into the above directory and remove the drivers?

It seemed like removing the avg*.sys drivers helped, as I was able to at least be in normal Windows mode and not have it crash.
Then I tried to reinstall AVG…it crashed.  And now it's crashing all the time again. I can't uninstall.  Not even with the Remover.  I don't even see those avg*.sys files anymore.
Not even sure what to do next.

Hello W S.
We would request you to try to boot your PC to safe mode and then try to run AVG remover tool to uninstall AVG completely. Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.

W S, we appreciate your efforts so far. We certainly understand your concern. We have sent you an email instruction to get connected with our technical support team. Please boot your PC to safe mode with networking and follow those instructions to get in touch with them and you should be able to resolve your issue. Thank you.

Thank you for the clarification.
Please delete only the files that are related to AVG and do not delete any Windows system files.

I tried running the AVG Remover tool while in Safe Mode but the laptop crashes once I choose AVG Protection to be removed.

Thanks.  But just to clarify…the files I can remove manually are the windows\system32\DRIVERS\avgidshx.sys  as well as 3 other avg*.sys files?

And I can't use the Remover in safe mode because it crashed on me.
