Hello Lisa,
I understand the inconvenience.
After recent AVG update, customer will receive notification as "AVG is in passive mode" when there are other security program installed on your PC.
The update was released to inform customers about the necessity of having a single antivirus program on their computer.
It is not recommended to have two security program running on same PC which might cause various issues for PC at any time.
We do not want our customers to lose any valuable data because of these conflicts with antivirus program.
The conflicting between antivirus program is the same from the beginning but it is our duty to inform customers about the seriousness of the issues that would occur, hence we decided to highlight customers through this update.
It is not possible to run AVG Internet Security in active mode when Malwarebytes is installed on your PC.
Please be informed that PUP's are known as "Potentially Unwanted Programs" which means they aren't possible threats but they aren't necessary to run on PC.
AVG has the capability of this PUP's when the option is enabled from scan settings.
Open AVG Internet Security dashboard and click on gear icon near "Scan Computer" and again click on "Gear Icon" near deep scan or file & folder scan.
In Behavior option you can find the option to "Scan for PUP".
Feel free to contact us if you need further assistance.
I am running AVG Internet Security (paid version) on my home computer and was recommended to install malwarebytes (free) to fully protect my computer (from an IT guy at work). I installed malwarebytes and ran it and 1,500 PUP files were found and removed.(took a long time to find and really don't want to go through that very often). First…shouldn't AVG be catching these? Second…why is AVG now telling me i can't have malwarebytes running at the same time and need to uninstall it in order to have full protection from AVG? I uninstalled it and AVG went back to working after I restarted computer.
Do I, seriously, need to install, run, and uninstall malwarebytes every month (week? day? year?)
