We are really sorry to know this. We'll certainly check and help you out.

Hello,
I tried each component in turn as listed in the article. I also then tried going to settings and ticking individual boxes on/off. None of that seemed to help. The only thing that resolves it is right clicking on tray icon and toggling "Protecion is on" to "off" instead.

When using Windows 11 biometrics (Windows Hello), the system loads multiple instances of secure Frame Server Helper (fslso.exe), causing an extremely high CPU usage. This behaviour does seem to be caused by AVG conflict, as temporarily disabling AVG will resolve the issue. Here is a screenshot. All instances of Secure Frame Server Helper continue to run and use high CPU indefinitely after successful biometric login:
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen 8, drivers etc all up to date
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 22H2
OS build 22621.2283
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22662.1000.0

Thank you for clarifying, Anton.
Let's temporarily disable the individual shields/components of your AVG Antivirus Free one by one and narrow down the component that's causing this issue.
Refer to this article for detailed instructions to temporarily disable the individual shields/components of your AVG Antivirus Free.
Also, share us a screenshot of processes window showing the resource consumption while your AVG Antivirus Free is disabled.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on Answer & then click on the Image [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Awaiting your response.

Thank you for sharing the information. In this case, I request you to repair (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=repair-avg-antivirus#:~:text=Right%2Dclick%20AVG%20Internet%20Security,AVG%20AntiVirus%20on%20your%20PC.) AVG AntiVirus free and check if that resolves the issue. Please also check if you have any other conflicting apps (Other security software) installed on your device. If any, please remove the same and check if everything works fine as usual.
Hello,
It's AVG Free.

Hello,
I've attempted a repair install and also verified that there is no other security software installed (except for Windows Hello biometrics which shops with Windows).
This did not resolve the issue.
