AVG Destroyed everything on my desktop

This morning, PC TuneUp updated FlashPlayer (AVG Virus Protection called the file TuneUp chose to use a virus).  After restarting the computer, every last shortcut, file, and folder on my desktop is gone.  I tried a system restore, and only got back about half of my items.

Has anyone else had this happen to them where AVG updates your computer and then destroys your computer's content?

Despite your claims to me and other people that "AVG program will not delete any icons/files without user's permission." that's exactly what happened.  Your system chose the file(s) to run to update, your system flagged the update as a virus, and then removed my files.  At no point did I receive any sort of prompt to delete them and give concent to their removal.  The threats in the screenshot above, along with the Flash Player update file (which includes one from July 10th, and the one from today that your system flagged and quarentined) were the only files in the quarentine.  My missing desktop files/folders/etc. were not in the quarentine as your suggestion seemed to imply.  I restored the Flash Player IDP.Generic that was in the quarentine as you said to do, went to Adobe Flash Player to make sure my computer had the most up-to-date version, reset the computer, and still only see the three threats in quarentine that were already in there before this whole incident occured and none of my missing files.

For all who is facing problems after installing AVG (for me AVG Antivirus Free)

BOOT your system in to SAFE MODE. if you are not able to access settings, then do this:
1) unplug your pc
2) plug in and press power button
3) when you see the loading dots quickly unplug the pc
4) repeat step 2 and 3 for 2 times
5) you will finally enter windows recovery
6) click troubleshoot->start up settings-> then click restart
7) You will get a menu. in that press 4 on the keyboard
8) System will reboot and you're on safe mode. Uninstall AVG Product.
9) Reboot system
10) Now you have peace now you are releived

Thanks

Hello Ian.
I apologize for the delay in responding. It could be possible that AVG TuneUp has run an automatic maintenance and deleted broken-shortcuts. We'd request to try restoring the changes made by AVG TuneUp on your PC.
Open AVG TuneUp, click the elliptical arrow at the top right hand corner and undo all the changes made.

Hi Ian,
I understand you performed an update of FlashPlayer using AVG TuneUp, a threat message popped up from AVG Internet Security and a restart was done. Now, you are unable to access any of the desktop folders/file/icons.
Be informed that AVG program will not delete any icons/files without user's permission. Please confirm whether you moved the infected file (Flash player) to quarantine. If yes, please open AVG Internet security > Menu > Quarantine and restore the files from there. Check if you are able to update and access the Flash Player application.
Feel free to contact us if you need any further help.

I hit Reply on your email response but then I received an auto-response saying that you didn't get my reply.  It said to make sure to reply without changing the subject line.  I did as it said, then received another auto-response saying it didn't go through again.

Attached is a screenshot of the notice AVG Virus Protection gave saying the update AVG TuneUp chose to run was a virus.

I've already tried that restoration of desktop icons, but that's only for the standard ones that come with Windows (Recycle Bin, My Computer, My Documents, etc.)  Other files, folders, website shortcuts, etc. are what were all deleted from my computer.  Even my "Desktop" folder was removed.

I tried restoring my computer back to this morning before AVG ruined it but that only restored a handful of items.  I tried to restore back to the beginning of August, but everything short of a few shortcuts was still missing.  Of 25 items on my desktop, only 10 of them show up now after the restoration (as can be seen in the left side of the screenshot [dual screens]).

When using TuneUp and trying to remove some old games/apps/etc. that aren't used anymore (first a steam game, then Ventrilo) to optimize, TuneUp removed everything but the Recycle Bin from my desktop and I had to go back even further with System Restore just to get back a couple items.

hey guess what its 2024 and avg just did exactly the same thing to me

uninstall deleted ALL my desktop icons

u is full of sheet avg
