Avg detected malware from Zone alarm

Hello!
I'm confused. Avg found malware and upon checking the file it put in quarantaine, it appears to be from Zone Alarm, which is supposed to protect my computer from malware.
The file name it found is in

Local Settings/Application Data\ZoneAlarm_Security\prxtbZon2.dll

Is this correct? And should I do something?
Thank you for your advice!

Best

Diana

Will do Rakshith! Thank you

That's very comforting to know Rakshith (the protect part by AVG, that is
I will continue to be careful, but I wasn't aware AVG would block the url and blacklist it, so I do feel more secure now browsing the internet.

I really appreciate your help and of course Midhun too!!

I did not yet remove the dll file from the quarantaine but will do so tomorrow. From what I understand, that's only a file related to the Zone Alarm toolbar, correct? Because I never use it, so I may just leave the file in the quarantaine. Or would that influence the protection by Zone Alarm?

What I like from ZA is that it gives you a warning when something tries to get in or out and it only works if I give permission.

My concern is that I cannot use the paid version of AVG on this old PC with Windows XP still and the free version isn't covering everything. But I will take your advice at heart and go read both descriptions when it comes to what it protects me for so I can make up my mind if I uninstall Zone Alarm. I had both on my PC for at least 12 years, but my PC keeps crashing and since you mentioned it, it is definitely something I will look into!

Warmly
Diana

Hello Diana,

We'll certainly look into this and help you.
Please share us the screenshot of the 'Threat secured' message you received from AVG, so that we can check and assist you further.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on Answer & then click on the Image [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Note: please click on 'See details' on the threat message and the share us the screenshot.
Thanks in advance.

Let me clarify this for you, Diana
AVG will detect if there is an Malware in your device.
You receive an pop up from AVG saying the same.

If you haven't received any. then you do not have to worry.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot, Diana.

In this case, we request you to restore the detected file from the AVG Quarantine folder and add it to the AVG exception list.
Please refer to this article to manage the AVG quarantined files.
Kindly check if the issue persists after adding the file to the exception list.

Thank you so much for getting back to me!

I actually hit the mountain icon this morning but I can only add an url, not a screenshot I saved on my computer. I tried again now and the option is there. The part I made red is my real name. I don't think I want to share this on the internet for security reasons :) I hope this works for you but please let me know if you  need anything else! Thank you again very much!!

Thank you Midhun,

I found this website before writing here where it describes the issue https://www.shouldiremoveit.com/ZoneAlarm-Security-Toolbar-30334-program.aspx. Now it has me wonder if this website is safe. I saved it to my bookmarks, but did not click on anything. Could this have harmed my computer?

Thank you again!!

Diana

You are most welcome! It's a pleasure assisting a valuable customer like you.
If you have any queries in the future, please feel free to contact us. We are always happy to help you.

Thank you Midhun!
What you wrote makes perfect sense. The reason I have Zone Alarm installed is that the free AVG version does not protect me against malware. At least this is my understanding but please correct me if I'm wrong!

Also, is there any chance to let me know if the website I sent in my previous reply is safe? As mentioned before, I did save it to my bookmarks but removed it and I did not download anything or clicked on any links.

It is possible, Diana
Just by clicking and unidentified URL, your PC might get infected.
But since you are protected by AVG, it will block the URL and blacklist it.
In that way, your PC is safe.

Thank you for writing back to us, Diana.

We understand that 'Zone Alarm' is a security solution/program.
From the screenshot, we can see that AVG is detecting a particular '.dll' file as a threat and not the whole 'Zone Alarm' security program.
We'd like to inform you it is generally not recommended to use more than one security solution on a computer as they will compete for resources, which may result in slowdowns, crashes.
If you wish to keep using the AVG Antivirus, we'd recommend uninstalling the 'Zone Alarm' security program. If you decide to uninstall the 'Zone Alarm' security program, the conflict can be avoided.
Please let us know how you wish to proceed further.
