AVG Driver Updater - Problem with Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

AVG Driver Updater updated a number of different drivers, now I have lost my audio output. The Driver Realtek High Definition Audio shows an error. I tried to revert to the previous version, but this did not resolve the problem. I have tried other fixes including trying to re download the Driver, but with no luck. I now have no Audio Device showing on my computer.

In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, then select Run as Administrator.

Scroll down to “Sound, video and game controllers” and click on it.

Right click on “High Definition Audio Device”, and choose “Uninstall Device”.

This will remove all details for your sound.

Shut down and restart your computer.

Windows should then find your device and load drivers from its own database that should be compatible to your version of windows.

Thankyou Keith for your advice.

I am setup on my laptop as the Administrator so have Admin access.

I did just try and uninstalled the Realtek H D Audio Driver and then rebooted the computer.

However when I restarted the computer it wanted to do a heap of Diagnostics, bit could not complete it and wanted to retry in 30 minutes.

It then gave me 3 options – retry, reset my computer or shutdown. So I shutdown, and then restarted the computer – which took me back to the original position, which still shows an error problem with the Realtek High Definition Audio

The driver property status states:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

The policy object does not exist when it should

I will give it another try later, and will let you know of the result.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello Keith (if you still see this message).

I have uninstalled the Driver as suggested, turned the computer off and restarted it.

The Realtek High definition Audio Driver is now working fine.

Thanks very much.

It’s happened again. Driver Updater wanted to update Realtek High Definition Audio Driver again, so I let it. Now I have no Audio. I followed the instructions to uninstall the Driver, and turned off the computer and restarted it - after several attempts at fully uninstalling the old driver and restarting the computer, I have sound back.

As this issue has been caused by an AVG Driver Update, AVG needs to ensure that their Updates don’t cause other issues. I did firstly tried to Revert to the previous Driver, but that did not work.
