Can you clarify? Do you think AVG reported these files as malware, and I clicked to indicate that they were known to me? I don't think I have done so; but I do think that the files were created by Mozila Thunderbird email client.

No it shouldn't but you may added them there by clicking on Allow in detection dialog.

Should files or folders be in my AVG "Exceptions" list that I did not put there? Who (or what) is responsible for them being there? Example:
C:\Documents and Settings.…(user name)…\Application Data\thunderbird\Profiles\zlpdngid.default\Mail\
