AVG File Shield locked up

@Avinash, do you mean that I haven't signed my EXE file? Or do you mean that AVG doesn't have a hash for that file to compare it to? If you mean me signing my own EXE file, then you are correct, I do not have it signed, because I myself don't have a digital certificate. I'm a hobbyist programmer, and as such I have never invested money in buying a digital certificate from Certificate Authority companies that make them (companies like Verisign).

As a result, all of the software I write is unsigned. Because of this, the current behavior of your File Shield doesn't work for me. If it locks up every time it scan an unsigned file, then I will have to disable the File Shield, until an AVG update is released which prevents such lock ups. As of now I have manually set the File Shield to be disabled permanently.

Hello Ben.
We regret the inconvenience.
AVG shields will continuously run and scan hundreds of files in the background to protect your device from virus and malware.
It looks like the exe file in question seems to not have a digital signature which might have caused the issue.
I would request you to restart your PC, add the exe file as an exception in AVG and run it.

It either is, or seems to be locked up. I'm a programmer, and I wrote a program. It worked when it ran in the folder my compiler put the EXE file in (which is a folder I've added as an exception in AVG, so it won't ever be scanned). When I copied the file outside of this folder, to simulate a working environment for the program, it didn't seem to run.

I thought maybe there was some kind of error that was preventing my program's GUI from displaying, so I checked Task Manager to see if the program was running. It wasn't, so I figured it had crashed. I then tried to delete the EXE file, but it couldn't be deleted. It said the file was being accessed by another program. I immediately suspected the File Shield component of AVG antivirus software was to blame, and was probably scanning the file. To test this I turned off File Shield and ran the program again. Immediately the program ran as expected.

So it seems that AVG File Shield is to blame for this. But the problem doesn't end there. While File Shield was disabled, I attempted to delete the EXE file, and it still wouldn't delete. So it seems that once a File Shield scan has started, it won't stop, even if you disable File Shield. Furthermore, the scan seems to be LOCKED UP! Ten minutes later, I STILL COULD NOT DELETE the file.

And to make matters worse, the scan NEVER displayed a GUI. If not for my tests to probe around and see what was causing my problems, I NEVER would have found out that AVG was causing the problem. I really DO NOT like silent scans, ESPECIALLY when the type of scan being performed is a type that tends to LOCK UP. If a virus scanner has a reason to scan a file, it should EXPLICITLY SHOW that it is performing this scan.

This is the SECOND TIME this has happened to me now (locked up File Shield scan). I may have to reboot my PC just to force it to stop scanning. That's what I had to do the first time!
