AVG fills Defs folder with 14Gig of old defs and I now do not have enough space to unistal AVG

David,
May I know how much free space is available on your C drive now? Please also let us know if it is a free version or trial version of AVG that you are using.

Yesterday I scrubbed oer 26GB of folders/files from the defs folder after wondering where my disk space was going and doing some research, then finding AVG to be the culprit. I uninstalled and reinstalled Internet Security v17.9.3040 on my Windows 10 machine. I saw two dated folders in the defs folder totalling approx. 140MB of space. This morning I now see four dated folders in the defs folder totalling approx. 280MB of space. So the issue does NOT seem to be resolved. Adding 140MB of space each and every day is obviously unacceptable and needs to be fixed ASAP. I'll be happy to help in the debugging of this issue, as this activity really plays havoc with those of us running VMs on machines that may have more limited space.

Hi

I reinstalled AVG Virus in September, since then its been updating and filling the Defs folder with all the new defs without deleting the old defs. I've read your previous posts to remove and reinstall using AVG Antivirus Clear, which I've downloaded and tried to run on the C drive but it fails as it says "Not Enough Disc Space". I've also tried to run it on the D drive but the same result. I've deleted everything I can from the C drive, but it still fails due to not enough space.

I can't manually delete the old definitions as they are being used by AVG. I've tried to disable AVG, but it still won't let me manually delete the old definitions. Within a week or so new definitions will have completely filled the C drive and effectively kill the laptop. How can I remove AVG Virus or delete the old definitions?

Ranjani,
I've only installed AVG IS 2018 Unlimited(after a 2016 clean uninstall) 2 days ago.  It might be too early to tell, but, what I did notice is that in the C:\Program Files\AVG\Antivirus\defs\17123100_stream directory that each progressive day there are more new *.bin files each with dates of the current day as well as retaining ones for past days.  They're small files though.

I'll keep an eye out though.  Thanks for your time and info.

Robert,

Yes, the issue has been already resolved. Let us know if you still get the same issue.

Hi All

I've deleted all I can from my C drive, virtualy all that is left is windows 10, a few programs and the bloated AGV - this gives me 1gb left. Unfortunatly, it's not the 2gig space for downloads that's  - the issue the issue is that the AVG Antivirus Clean won't run due to lack of space on C. If I could get rid of AVG I could reinstal a fresh copy.

I've slept on it and have come up with a cunning plan! I'll boot in Safe Mode which will hopefully alow me to delete most of the old defs and creat space, so I can uninstall. Will Safe Mode allow me to delete the old definitions?

Yes, you will be able to delete the files in safe mode.
Keep us informed about the status.

Thank you for the information, Robert.
The files are related to updates downloaded for AVG.
If there are any issues with those files, do let us know.

David, To install 2 GB of free space required. Have a look @ this AVG article (http://avgread.me/1Ewajhi) .
